Our Story

Back in April 2022, we (Ryan & Courtney) proudly reopened the doors to what was once The Newstead Abbey, launching a new chapter after a turbulent past — with one clear goal in mind: to create Bulwell’s true community pub. With over seven years of combined experience managing pubs within two of the UK’s biggest hospitality chains, we knew it was time to take that knowledge and pour it into something of our own — something that truly serves the people around us.

From day one, our mission has been rooted in community. We wanted The Abbey to be more than just a pub — a hub where locals could connect, celebrate, and support each other. That’s why we built it around real local involvement: from sports teams and quiz nights, to live music, charity drives, and themed events that bring everyone together.

We also committed early on to revamping our function room, supporting local causes, introducing cask ales, and being both dog- and family-friendly. Every decision we’ve made has been with Bulwell in mind — because this place is built for you.

Since reopening on 8th April 2022, the response from the community has been nothing short of incredible. With your continued support, The Abbey Bulwell has become a space that celebrates the people, voices, and spirit of this amazing town. And we're just getting started.
